Its programs include an active child passenger safety program, aggressive drunk driving and motor vehicle campaigns, bike safety classes, distracted driving patrols, and a Citizens’ Police Academy, among other initiatives.
In addition, AAA honored Officer Jason Flynn as a department-nominated Traffic Safety Hero for his quick actions that saved a woman from being pinned by her own car.
Flynn was investigating an accident when the car involved rolled backward. The car owner attempted to stop it from rolling by leaning against the back of the car, but her efforts proved futile.
A quick-thinking Flynn jumped into the rolling car’s front seat and was able to apply the brakes, which prevented the woman from being pinned between her car and his patrol car. The incident was recorded by the patrol car’s camera and posted on the department’s Facebook page.
